Where is everyone
by
Michael
This is my favorite season for think puppy when joey and nate lead a debate about best and worst ads and we all stupidly chime in as the "consumer public". Joey's got his top 5 up, now lets have at it!!!!

darth vadar was clever, doritos all suckd, thought the audi was entertaining, kardashian was hot, pepsi/bud light/coke/other beers were about as mediocre as usual...
i did like the chrysler-eminem 2 min spot. it had my attention from the beginning, it was visually captivating and well put together, and all things considered, i do feel for detroit, cant think of a city that has gone downhill at a more consistent rate for a longer period of town (maybe buffalo on a smaller scale). because an ad may not be effective for that company doesnt mean direct failure...how important is the-people are talkign about it-factor? joey is more than correct in saying 2 mins is awhile to pay attention, but it was a good two minutes in my book. i dont like their cars, i dont like eminem, and i dont need to like either in order to enjoy a commercial, as much as a layman such as myself can enjoy a commercial. and should the weight of an non-ad-industry american consumer hold any credibility? that is whom the companies make the ads for, yes? or maybe we should let a few degrees and a deskjob tell us what to think, a "professional" opinion if you will
waleed, were u able to stream channel with commercials? watch the whole game? last year i had trouble with both...but tell me u at least saw ur boy a-rod getting popcorn shoveled in by cam diaz?
first of all andy, advertising is not made for entertainment. i know it is easy to forget that since many ads are entertaining (especially during the super bowl), but the reality is that they are made to sell stuff and make money. what is all of this buzz worth? absolutely nothing unless someone buys something. companies do not make money off youtube hits or how many people liked their commercial. it doesnt take a fancy degree to understand that, but it is something that people whose livelihood depend on understand very deeply.
im not saying that it was a bad commercial. i think it was ridiculously well crafted, albeit it could have been shorter. i think it was built on a genuine insight which is more than i can say for 90% of the ads i watched last night. the american automotive industry needs to start rebuilding itself from an image standpoint as many people have lost faith in it, and what better place to start than a full 2 minutes on the most watched television event in history? 111 million tuned in.
i get that buzz directly links to brand relevance which then plays a big role in purchase decisions. and when was the last time anyone talked about chrysler anyways? but buying a car is huge decision. something that people generally dont go off and do based on some conversations about a commercial they saw. i think there is some potential for this spot to be a turning point for chrysler but it needs a long term commitment if it is going to have an effect on influencing consumer attitudes and purchasing behavior. not just an ad commitment but a company commitment to improve their product (and shoddy transmissions). i would like to see them keep the momentum going and hope this is only the beginning...and that they didnt blow their entire budget in one load.
ps ironic that the brisk spot (which ran before chyrsler) ended with eminem saying "thats why i dont do commercials" - anyone else catch that? and i agree with vaiana that it was god awful. steve - big props on audi and i would have definitely ranked it if i was going solely off production value. top notch work. but i question audi's decision of showing their top competitors brand (mercedes) before showing their own. especially when the spot has a big build like that since you really have to hope that people stick with it and get the whole story. risky move in my "professional" opinion.
look....if had one shot, one opportunity, to seize everything you ever wanted, would you capture it...or just let it slip
as long as we can agree that vaiana's comment comes with no mechanical experience and a used/crashed car.
i like that they used "generations of hardworkers" to stand for detroit.
tonyD's ma got teh chrysler 300 after a ton of research and test driving and that car was sick, i bet the new 200 is a great car, it kinda has to be if its going to be the car that starts to rebuild the image/rep. of chysler.
suck on it VMAN YOUR GARBAGE WITH CARS
kardashian is probably going to make whatever company that was a lot of money...right?
vaiana didnt drive a car he drove an ice boat
haha, joey is right, but it's not based on my experience with that one car (which had a bad transmission). A mechanic told me that a certain important part that Chrysler uses is aluminum, making it cheap but fragile. I'm not claiming to be an expert but everyone I've ever known with a chrysler had transmission problems eventually. I just did some research and read that 'old' chrysler transmissions are to be phased out by 2011. Maybe its because they know they suck, maybe not...
SUCK IT!
Getting back to the Super Bowl for a minute...not sure if anyone still cares but there was an article on AdAge this morning that put a $$ value on all of the additional PR and YouTube hits etc that companies get online.
As of now, the Chrysler Eminem spot has 3.3 million youtube hits which is about $90,000 in "free" media. It doesnt exactly offset the $15 million this one probably cost but Andy really liked it and Tony Ds mom bought one so its basically like breaking even
