worth it, not worth it.

A new segment I am featuring here on ThinkPuppy will be called "worth it, not worth it" following up on two albums I have recently listened to from the archive of my college iTunes collection, which amazingly enough would soon be able to drive if it were human. This "worth it, not worth it" features two young (at the time) solo musicians who dropped off the face of the planet. or maybe not. I'm not going to research it.
worth it: Ben Kweller's "Sha Sha" - This album presents a full sonic spectrum. Sometimes it's punk rock loud, others it's acoustic quiet. Sometimes it's goofy and upbeat, sometimes introspective and sad. It sounds like it was written and recorded by a teenager, but a closer listen reveals it is by no means simple. I enjoy every song on this album and listened to it twice, top to bottom.
not worth it: Keller Williams' "Laugh" - This album starts off reminding me how outrageously talented Keller Williams is, followed by immediate boredom with his songwriting. This is a virtuoso guitar player who was clearly doing bong rips between takes and the entire time I was wishing he would take his craft to the next level. I can understand if you love this album, but it's not for me.
